Comprehensive Rock Physics Modeling for Reservoir CharacterizationOur system creates a robust rock physics model for forward modeling Vp, Vs, and density logs under varying reservoir conditions. Using effective media relationships combined with the moduli and densities of the rock’s constituents, our model accurately reconstructs measured well-log data. Derived attributes—such as relative properties and reflectivities—are then computed from these modeled logs at both well-log and seismic resolutions, available in time or depth domains.Well-Log Inversion and Modeling

  • Rock Physics Model Definition:
    • Select effective media relationships (e.g., Hill Average, Hashin-Shtrikman for solids; Wood or patchy models for fluids; Krief’s or critical porosity for porosity inclusion; Gassmann’s equations for fluid inclusion).
    • Estimate the moduli and densities of rock constituents through iterative adjustments that minimize the difference between modeled and measured Vp, Vs, and density logs.
    • Input volume fractions of rock constituents from a petrophysical evaluation (external to SeisRP).
  • Forward Modeling of Rock Properties:
With the defined rock physics model, reservoir properties can be systematically varied (by percentage of in-situ value or as constant volume fractions). The system then reconstructs Vp, Vs, and density logs as if acquired under these modified conditions. Analysis can be conducted at both well-log and seismic resolutions, with time plots adjusted for in-situ or two-way time outcomes.

3D Model SimulationThe 3D Model module creates perturbed datasets for target intervals by:

  • Generating a 3D volume of petrophysical properties from well evaluations.
  • Modifying selected properties (for example, porosity in the inline direction and mineralogy across lines).
  • Computing elastic properties (Vp, Vs) and density for each pseudo-well within the volume.
  • Deriving seismic attributes in either time or depth domains, which are then used for calibrating seismic inversions and assessing petrophysical sensitivity.

This integrated workflow provides a powerful tool for forward modeling, well-log inversion, and 3D seismic simulation—all essential for reducing uncertainty in reservoir characterization.
